Arboretum

There are many fine trees in Brotherton Park and Dibbinsdale. There are 2 distinct areas. The Brotherton Park / Woodslee area that consists of both native and exotic trees. Then there is the Dibbinsdale SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Wirral’s last remaining area of ancient woodland. Here only native trees can be planted.

The Arboretum

The Arboretum is in the area surrounding the site of “Woodslee” the Victorian villa that stood here between 1869 – 1940’s

Many are exotic trees from around the globe, and others are native.

Some of the original  “specimen” trees date from the building of Woodslee, making them approx. 160 – 200  years old.

Some trees are now in their old age whilst others may live for many more hundreds of years. A few may even make it a thousand. More trees have been added over the years.

The Friends of Dibbinsdale are rediscovering and labelling a selection of the trees, and also sponsor the planting of new specimen trees.

Have you a favourite tree, or know the story behind the trees planted in previous years?
